Travel We strongly recommend that you avail public transport by train or bus from Bangalore to travel to Birur town (Karnataka), which is about 26 kms from Ballavara, Karnataka for the event.
If you live outside Karnataka, especially in the North or North-East, we recommend that you plan on arriving in Bangalore on October 5th and make the remaining part of the journey on the morning of October 6th.
We request you to organise your train or bus travel so that you arrive at Birur between 9:00 am and 12:00 noon on October 6th. This will ensure that you get to the venue before lunch. You can relax, mingle and shoot the breeze before the evening pre-run dinner.
Train Travel (Recommended) Birur Junction (Station Code RRB) has several trains passing through it from Bangalore and other major towns in Karnataka. Average journey time from Bangalore is 3.5 hours. We recommend that you take one of the following options from Bangalore City Railway Station (Station Code SBC) on Friday, October 6th, 2017. While most of these trains stop at Yeshwantpur (Station Code YPR), they only stop there for a few minutes and you will be rushed.
Train 12079 Jan Shatabdi departing 6:00 am from SBC and arriving 9:13 am in RRB (Chair Car)
Train 11022 Chalukya Express departing 6:30 am from YPR and arriving 10:03 am in RRB (2A, 3A or SL).
The following option can be used as a back up for travel to Birur.
Train 12725 Intercity Express departing 1:00 pm from SBC and arriving 4:30 pm in RRB (Chair Car). We suggest you take one of the early morning trains above so that you can spend a relaxed evening preparing for the run the following day instead of rushing to our pre-run dinner.
The best option for your return journey by train on Sunday, October 8th are:
Train 12726 Intercity Express departing 10:10 am from RRB and arriving 2:05 pm in SBC (Chair Car).
The following options can be used as back up.
Train 16580 Yeshwantpur Express departing 4:40 pm from RRB and arriving 9:00 pm in YPR (Chair Car, Sleeper)
Train 12080 Jan Shatabdi Express departing 5:50 pm from RRB and arriving 9:25 pm in SBC (Chair Car)
Please book your tickets well in advance to ensure reservations. Our event is in the peak festival season in between Dussehra and Diwali and train reservations are hard to come by unless you book about two months in advance.
Road Travel Birur is also connected very well by road to Bangalore. A/C Volvo and non-AC buses are run by the Karnataka Road Transport Corporation Ltd (KSRTC). You can make online reservations and journey time should be about 4.5 to 5 hours. There are no A/C buses to Birur as a destination, but there are plenty of A/C buses plying through Birur to onward destinations like Shimoga (also called Shivamogga) and Bhadravathi. Remember to get off at Birur if you are taking one of these onward buses! Again, please plan on reaching Birur before 12 noon on October 6th so that you can be picked up and transferred to the venue.
A/C Airavat buses from Shivamogga operated by KSRTC might be a better option for your return journey on October 8th. There are two departures from Shivamogga at 10:34 am and 12:00 noon that should reach Birur about an hour later.
You should consider bus travel only if you are completely against the idea of traveling by train! The train options are much better in terms of travel time and convenience.
Accommodation Our Travel Partner has put together a convenient package for our participants. This package included accommodation on a sharing basis and transfers from Birur. Rooms can be shared with 2/3/4/5/6 others to suit your budget and accommodate groups. You can contact them for questions on the package.
